Do you know the extent of the Human Trafficking problem in El Paso County? Experts say that human trafficking is expected to overtake illegal drug activity as the top illicit crime worldwide. There are nearly 21 million victims annually in what is a $32 billion industry. The internet and social media are fueling the rapid growth.
Knowledge is Power:
This series on human trafficking offers powerful information, education and tools for prevention of this crime in our families and communities.
* Sunshyne Powell, MA, LPCC; has worked with at risk youth since the age of 18 when she became a Big Sister for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. This experience inspired her to work with at risk youth for the rest of her career. She worked in a residential treatment facility for 3 years before coming to El Paso County Department of Human Services, where she has served youth and their families for the last 13 years. She combats human trafficking in our community as a member of the Metro Area Sex Trafficking Task Force. She has a master’s degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University.
