Message of Hope and Faith
January 31, 2019
This has been a difficult year for many of us as we struggle with the issues at our borders. The need is great and yet we can’t seem to find a way of vetting the many who are seeking asylum. There is a sense of impotence and powerlessness among the many of us.
Sisters of the United States were recently asked by our national leadership (LCWR – Leadership Conference of Women Religious) if we could respond to the many needs along our southern border. As a community, we decided to answer this request by sending our Sister Evangeline Salazar, OSB, who is bilingual to the border this last November. She found the experience profoundly transformative. Sister Evangeline’s stories of light and faith in the lives of these immigrants who are seeking a better life for their children and themselves have moved me to tears.
Other sisters will be returning to El Paso later in the year to continue this work.
Please take a moment to listen to her interview…..
NOTE: Sister Evangeline will turn 80 years old in a few days!
If you are inspired to support the sisters in their mission efforts, please visit our ‘Donate’ page and use the drop down feature under ‘Campaign” to choose “Mission Outreach”. Thank you for your gift to support the work of the sisters.
