Scripture Student Program

“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. “
- St. Jerome

Why take courses on Scripture?

- to deepen your intimacy with Christ in knowing him thru Scripture
- then you will be able to pray more deeply
- you will be able to worship more meaningfully
- the Mass will take on an understanding you may never have experienced before
- helps one know God’s intentions, thus, pray and worship more intimately

Learning to read, study, and pray biblical readings enlivens the experience of the Mass, the Eucharist as well as a daily journey w/Christ.  Lively class discussions build community and aid in learning through other students’ inspiration. Old Testament and New Testament books are taught intermittently to remind the student of Christ’s hope and not just the Law of the Old Testament.
The program can begin with a three-week introduction to instruct the reader how to identify different types of writings in different cultures and times.  The student first looks at the writing, the culture, and the people at the time of the actual writing. (i.e.,  Was, is God a god of violence?)  After the reading is understood in the original context, then again in the time of Christ, the reader learns to make the writing meaningful for today.

Learning to read the Bible is exciting, challenging, and enlightening.  Come experience God’s Word come alive in your life!
