Year II Facilitator

Rev. Joanne Buchanan-Brown has been influenced by the Benedictine spiritual tradition over most of her adult life. Certified by the BSFP herself, she has practiced as spiritual director for over five years, and offers spiritual retreats in churches and other communities. She holds an MDiv from the Iliff School of Theology and is ordained in the United Church of Christ, where her current call is prison chaplain at Denver Women's Correctional Facility. There, she weaves Benedictine hospitality and contemplative practice into her ecumenical ministry to nearly 1,000 women offenders. A registered nurse for 30 years and a pastor since 2000, Joanne has known a lifelong passion for walking with others in pursuit of the spiritual, and has done spiritual formation/transformation work within various congregations for over 20 years. As a teacher and preacher integrating the spiritual journey with social justice, she is honored to work with the Sisters of the Benet Hill community and looks forward to making her vows as oblate with Benet Hill in November.
